Overview

Through the generosity of Dr. Rick Workman and his wife, Angie Workman, 10 spots for the ADEA/Bell Leadership Institute Achievers Program are being offered tuition-free as part of a leadership development trajectory with the goal of preparing promising mid-career dental faculty for future deanships. The Achievers Program is a three-day in-person meeting held at The Carolina Inn on the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus.

The program is offered several times throughout 2027. Travel expenses, accommodations and some meals are the participant’s responsibility.

This program offering is restricted to full-time U.S. dental faculty.

Individuals must be nominated to be considered for the ADEA/Bell Leadership Institute Achievers Program. All nominees and their representative institutions must be ADEA members.

Criteria for Program Nomination

  • A brief letter of endorsement by the dental faculty member’s dean that indicates the nominee’s promise for future higher education leadership,
  • Nominee must be a full-time employee of the institution,
  • Nominee must hold the title of Assistant/Associate Dean or Department Chair and been in the role for a minimum of two years and
  • Nominee must be pursuing a future deanship or other leadership position in higher education.

Nomination for this scholarship will use the information from nominee’s ADEA profile. Please ensure nominee’s profile is updated by going to adea.org/myadea.

The following items must be submitted by September 10, 2026, using the ADEA online application process:

  1. A brief letter of endorsement by nominee’s dean,
  2. Nominee’s curriculum vitae and
  3. A brief statement by nominee (no more than 1,500 characters) indicating their current trajectory, desire and readiness for an additional leadership role, including future deanship.

Nominations will be reviewed by a volunteer committee and selected nominees will be notified by December 2026.

De-identified nominee information will be used to improve scholarships at ADEA and may be published. Identified information (e.g., biographies) of winners will be published on the ADEA website, shared with the nominee’s home institution, and may be used in ADEA promotional material. By applying for this scholarship, the nominee agrees that they have read and understand how their information could be used.
