2026 Summer Deans’ Institute FAQ

The 2026 Summer Deans’ Institute will take place Friday, July 31 to Monday, Aug. 3 at Francis Marion Hotel, Charleston, SC. Participation is by invitation only. 

The Summer Deans’ Institute is an annual gathering of the deans of U.S. and Canadian dental schools for which ADEA manages the logistical arrangements.

How do I register for the meeting?

Please register online through the link posted on the ADEA website.

What if I have to cancel my registration?

To receive a refund for your conference registration, you must submit a written cancellation by Tuesday, June 23, 2026, to the registration team at meetings@adea.org.

ADEA will issue a refund—minus an individual $75 processing fee—after the meeting’s conclusion. Cancellation requests received after June 23 are not eligible for refund or credit. Refunds or credits will not be given for failure to attend, late arrival, unattended events or early departure.

Which airport is closest to the conference site?

Charleston International Airport (CHS), which is approximately 12 miles from the hotel.

What are the health and safety protocols for the meeting?

While we look forward to an in-person conference, there is no higher priority than the safety and well-being of ADEA members and staff. Accordingly, we continue to monitor the status of the COVID-19 variants and their impact on the operational status of our ADEA Member Institutions. 

ADEA will implement health and safety protocols appropriate to the public health circumstances existing at the time of the conference. Compliance with some or all the protocols adopted by ADEA will be mandatory for in-person attendance and participation at the conference by members, guests of members, sponsors, staff, etc. Additional information regarding the specific health and safety measures, and any necessary consents by you, will be communicated prior to the first day of the conference. Failure to adhere to or comply with the safety protocols in place may result in removal from the event and/or event premises.

What is the ADEA Code of Conduct, and is it required for this event?

By registering for this event/conference, you acknowledged that you have read and agree to abide by the ADEA Code of Conduct for meetings, conferences, events and virtual communities. Among other things, you agree to provide contact information, be available via the contact information, consent to audio and visual recording by ADEA and meet the Code of Conduct requirements.

Compliance with the ADEA Code of Conduct is a condition of participation in ADEA’s events, conferences and virtual communities. ADEA reserves the right to take appropriate action, including revoking access to the meeting.

What is the dress code for the meeting?

Attire for the meeting is business casual. Please dress in layers as temperatures in meeting rooms may vary.

Can I bring my family or a guest with me?

The 2026 Summer Deans’ Institute is an interactive experience, and participants are encouraged to attend all meals, receptions and team-building activities. Guest registration is limited to one adult guest (21 years or older). The registered adult guest may attend any meal functions, offsite activities and/or evening events—provided the guest registration fee has been paid.

Guests are not permitted to attend programming sessions. Individuals under the age of 21 are not permitted at events where alcohol is served.

If I have a child under the age of 18 with me, what must I know?

To provide an appropriate professional setting, ADEA does not allow children under the age of 21 to attend any conference functions. We request that you arrange for the supervision of children that accompany you.

Will Continuing Education (CE) credits be provided for this event?

CE credits are not being offered for this event.
