1. What’s the one piece of advice you would give to anyone in dental school?
One important tip I'd love to share with anyone in dental school is to make sure you enjoy your hobbies and passions outside of your studies. It’s true that dental school can sometimes feel overwhelming with all the coursework and clinical tasks, but carving out time for your favorite activities can really help you relax and recharge. For me, music is a big part of my life—I truly cherish moments when I can sing or play the piano in a joyful and healthy way. Remember, balancing your studies with things you love can make your journey much more enjoyable and fulfilling.
2. What’s the biggest challenge facing dental education today?
I truly believe that one of the most important challenges in dental education today is supporting student wellness. The stress and burnout caused by demanding academic and clinical schedules can significantly affect students' well-being, and in turn, influence their overall educational experience. Focusing on wellness can make a real difference in helping students thrive and enjoy their learning journey.
3. If you could change one thing about dental education (or dentistry) with a snap of your fingers, what would that be?
I would change the high cost of attendance to dental school.
4. Who is your go-to person when you need advice?
Professionally, I turn to my mentors in dental school when it comes to advice about research, residency, class work or clinic.
5. What’s one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?
I think people would be surprised to learn that I have a minor in music from Stony Brook University. I am a classically trained singer, and I enjoy sharing my talent for various charity and sporting events! I also believe that there is medicine in music. This belief inspired me to create an extracurricular club that brings dental students together to share their passion for music.
