Arkansas Oral Health Coalition Honors Drew Ramey with Statewide Oral Health Promotion Award

Drew Ramey, of the Lyon College School of Dental Medicine (Lyon College SDM), was named the recipient of the 2025 Excellence in Oral Health Promotion—Individual Award by the Arkansas Oral Health Coalition, recognizing his longstanding leadership and impact on oral health initiatives across the state.

The award was announced at the 2025 Oral Health Summit in Little Rock, AR, after a competitive nomination and review process conducted by the Arkansas Oral Health Coalition. Excellence in Oral Health Promotion awards honor individuals and organizations that make outstanding contributions to improving oral health in Arkansas.

“For many years, Drew has been a steady, energetic force in efforts to improve oral health throughout Arkansas,” said Caleb Stanton, Executive Director of the Arkansas Oral Health Coalition. “His leadership, commitment and willingness to work quietly but effectively behind the scenes have shaped the landscape of oral health in our state in significant ways.”

A longtime and active member of the coalition, Mr. Ramey has played a key role in advancing initiatives that strengthen oral health programs, expand access to care and build collaborative partnerships statewide. Mr. Ramey serves as a strategy adviser for the Lyon College SDM.

Among his most notable contributions, Mr. Ramey helped advance legislation that set the stage for establishing a dental school in Arkansas, a milestone expected to have a lasting impact on the state’s oral health workforce and access to dental care. He also championed legislation to improve dental services for individuals with special needs, helping ensure more equitable access to quality care.

“Colleagues consistently describe him as someone who brings people together, builds genuine partnerships, and encourages others to grow and lead with confidence. He prefers to let the work speak for itself or to deflect praise to others, which speaks so well of the genuine heart behind his efforts,” Mr. Stanton said.

“Drew embodies the mission and values of the Lyon College School of Dental Medicine,” said Burke Soffe, D.M.D., M.Ed., Founding Dean of Lyon College SDM. “His dedication to improving oral health across Arkansas, combined with his humility and collaborative spirit, makes him an extraordinary leader and advocate. This recognition is well deserved, and we are proud to have him as part of our institution.”

"I am very thankful for the recognition from the Oral Health Coalition,” Mr. Ramey said. “There are so many people who are trying to make a difference. Helping to create the Lyon College School of Dental Medicine will likely be the most important contribution I will make to the profession of dentistry. This award will be a reminder that I am just one of many, over many years who will never rest when it comes to improving oral health."
