Southeast Community College Dental Assisting Students Support the Veterans Mission of Mercy Dental Clinic
Southeast Community College Dental Assisting students had an opportunity in fall 2024 to serve Nebraska veterans and spouses at the Veterans Mission of Mercy Dental Clinic in November 2024.
Southeast Community College had 33 students and five faculty members attend both the Friday and Saturday events.
The students collaborated with dental students, dental hygiene students and licensed professionals.
Duties the dental assisting students performed include:
- Patient check-in/check-out and escort,
- Chairside assisting during dental procedures,
- Sterilization of dental equipment,
- Data entry and
- Other volunteer needs.
During the two-day event, over $600,000 worth of dental care was completed for veterans and spouses.
