Check Out the ADEA Dental Faculty Compensation Report, 2023-24

on October 7, 2025

ADEA members now have access to a new report on dental school faculty compensation figures. The ADEA Dental Faculty Compensation National Report, 2023-24 provides information on the 2023-24 guaranteed annual salary and total compensation of full- and part-time U.S. dental school faculty that are at least 50% full-time equivalent and have one of the following academic ranks: professor, associate professor or assistant professor (including clinical/research faculty). Total compensation includes guaranteed annual salary, benefits and other forms of income.

An ADEA faculty member from a U.S. dental school can check how their compensation compares with the national, regional and institutional (public/private) averages for faculty by:

  • Administrative title/academic rank and how compensation varies by the highest academic degree, employment status and primary discipline;
  • Academic rank and the variation in compensation with tenure status and Board certification; and
  • Academic rank, primary discipline and the differences in compensation depending on the faculty generalist/specialist designation or clinician status.

The report presents information about guaranteed annual salary and total compensation, including the figures reported by the dental schools and adjusted for the cost of living. Sixty-three (86%) of the 73 accredited dental schools in the United States during the 2023-2024 fiscal year provided faculty compensation data and 71 (97%) schools provided other dental school faculty data.

The report can be purchased in the ADEA bookstore.
