The NYU College of Dentistry (NYU Dentistry) Department of Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting has expanded its reach—educating oral health professionals around the world via Beyond Borders: The NYU Dental Hygiene Global Network.

The Department hosted two events this summer as part of an ongoing Beyond Borders partnership with Prof. Naoko Fujimori, alum and adjunct instructor, and Dr. Hisashi Yonemoto.

The first event, held on July 14-15, welcomed dental hygiene students and faculty from Yonsei University, located in Seoul, South Korea. The program featured lectures and hands-on activities led by Prof. Fujimori and Dianne Sefo, M.Ed., RDH, Clinical Associate Professor and Chair of Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting at NYU Dentistry, focusing on periodontal assessment, instrument sharpening and ultrasonic scaling and a presentation on ethics for clinical dental hygienists from Dr. Yonemoto.

The collaboration continued with a second event, on July 17-18, for dental hygienists and dentists from Japan. This program introduced a new series of lectures and hands-on sessions. Victoria Benvenuto, Ed.M., RDH, Clinical Assistant Professor of Dental Hygiene Programs at NYU Dentistry, presented and led a session on periodontal scaling. Andrea Beall, Ed.D., RDH, Clinical Assistant Professor at NYU Dentistry, presented on improving oral health outcomes in pediatric dentistry. Lisa Stefanou, M.P.H., RDH, Clinical Associate Professor at NYU Dentistry, presented on fluoride treatment strategies. Seiichi Yamano, D.D.S., Ph.D., D.M.D., M.M.Sc., Associate Professor of Prosthodontics at NYU Dentistry, presented on oral hygiene and dental prosthetics.
