The American Dental Education Association (ADEA) is pleased to announce the search for its next President and Chief Executive Officer. The Association is recruiting a new leader following Dr. Richard W. Valachovic’s impending retirement from the position on June 30, 2019.

In an interview about the search, ADEA Board Chair R.L. (Monty) MacNeil, D.D.S., M.Dent.Sc., Dean of the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine, highlighted ADEA’s unique role as the sole national organization representing academic dentistry. “ADEA has been very successful serving as the voice of dental education and securing a place for academic dentistry among other health education professions and the health care community more broadly,” says Dr. MacNeil. “The Board is committed to finding an outstanding leader who has a thorough understanding of the current and changing environment for dental education, and how we can work with stakeholders within and outside our profession to honor our mission.”

Dr. MacNeil has named Henry Gremillion, D.D.S., MAGD, Dean of the Louisiana State University Health New Orleans School of Dentistry and ADEA Board Director for Deans, as chair of the search committee. The following committee members have agreed to serve with Dr. Gremillion:

  • Charles J. Alexander, Ph.D., Associate Vice Provost for Student Diversity, University of California, Los Angeles
  • Hubert Chan, D.D.S., Assistant Dean for Clinical Education, Western University of Health Sciences College of Dental Medicine

  • Stephen C. Shannon, D.O., M.P.H., President and CEO, American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine
