Eric Stoopler, D.M.D., FDSRCS, FDSRCPS, Associate Professor of
Oral Medicine and Director of the Postdoctoral Oral Medicine Program at University
of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine (Penn Dental Medicine), has been
named President of the American Academy of Oral Medicine (AAOM) for 2018–2019.
He was installed at the recent AAOM Annual Meeting.
“I am sincerely grateful to serve as President of the AAOM this
year,” says Dr. Stoopler. “To have the privilege to represent this
organization, comprised of professionals who do such important, life-saving
work, is truly what makes this honor so meaningful to me.”
Dr. Stoopler has been an active member of the AAOM Executive
Committee since 2012, serving as Assistant Secretary (2012–2013), Secretary
(2013–2015), Vice President (2015–2017), and President-Elect (2017–2018). He
also serves on the Board of Trustees and has led several committees, serving as
Chairman of the Membership Committee (2010–2013), Program Directors Committee
(2013–2015), Corporate Sponsorship Committee (2016–2017) and the Honorary
Awards and Fellowship Committee (2017–2018).
AAOM’s Executive Committee is responsible for general
decision-making regarding the Academy’s programs, while the Board of Trustees
sets the strategic plan and provides oversight to ensure the organization’s
goals are met. Founded in 1945, AAOM’s mission is to advance excellence in patient care, education, and research in
the field of oral medicine and to increase professional and public awareness of
the specialty. The AAOM offers
credentialing, resources, and a professional community for oral medicine
practitioners.
