anticipated American Dental Education Association (ADEA) Compendium of Curriculum Guidelines for Allied Dental Education Programs
is now available. This revised edition applies the combined knowledge and
expertise of 36 allied dental educators, 11 of whom had participated in the
last revision assembly of 2005. In response to an increasing number of requests
to reprint and distribute the existing guidelines to a number of new allied
dental education programs, directors and faculty, the ADEA Council of Allied
Dental Program Directors Administrative Board set in motion a formal revision
project, and released the updated guide in May 2015.
guidelines are designed for allied dental curriculum development assistance,
specifically proving most beneficial for new programs and faculty needing
content direction in newly developed areas of study. Although not to be
considered official policy statements of ADEA, the goal of the second revision
initiative was to produce a contemporary document including various educational
strategies, electronic resources and blended learning formats. However, with
accreditation standards requiring frequent updates, many program directors
emphasized a need for more specific content guidelines moving forward. Most of
the 2015 revisions target dental hygiene educators and programs with a few
areas focused on combining dental hygiene and assisting programs.
document, along with additional resources for allied dental educators, is
