When the 2012 ADEA PASS application cycle opens on May 18, 2011, it will include a tool that provides a more complete picture of an applicant's potential for success in an advanced dental education program—beyond grades, test scores, and recommendation letters. The new tool (which has demonstrated validity and utility in predicting success in graduate-level programs) collects and shares information about an applicant's strengths through non-cognitive measures.
The ETS® Personal Potential Index (ETS® PPI) is a web-based evaluation system where up to five evaluators the applicant has selected rate him or her on personal characteristics. Advanced dental education program directors have indicated these attributes are critical to success in their programs: knowledge and creativity, communication skills, teamwork, resilience, planning and organization, and ethics and integrity. ETS then creates an ETS ® PPI Evaluation Report that incorporates the evaluations and comments from all evaluators and is included in the ADEA PASS application sent to advanced dental education programs the applicant designates.
To find out exactly how the ETS ® PPI works with ADEA PASS, read the complete description on the ADEA Department of Educational Pathways website. This is a pilot program for the 2012 application cycle that will be assessed for its effectiveness in advanced dental education admissions.
