ADEA's well-regarded Summer Program for Emerging Academic Leaders provides guidance and training for junior faculty members, who are joining faculty after a residency or after private practice. This highly interactive immersion program helps propel careers through leadership skill development, time management, and team building activities that are essential to planning and implementing a successful academic career. The face-to-face instruction ends on July 15 but the collaborative learning experience continues via quarterly video conferences throughout the year. 

Registration is now open, and multiple faculty members may register from a single institution. The 2012 program will be held July 12 – 15 at Meadowmere Resort in Ogunquit, Maine.

2012 Program Participants Will:

  • Understand current major topics and trends in academic dentistry
  • Assess and develop leadership competencies
  • Create a plan to build your career
  • Expand your professional network of colleagues and mentors
  • Discover leadership and professional development opportunities for involvement in ADEA.

Clyde H. Evans, Ph.D., Senior Consultant, Academy for Academic Leadership

Dr. Evans was vice president at the Association of Academic Health Centers 1998-2005. Previously, he spent 13 years at Harvard Medical School as a member of the faculty, director of the Office for Academic Careers, and Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs.

Paula N. O’Neill, M.Ed., Ed.D., Associate, University of Texas Health Science Center, Senior Consultant, Academy for Academic Leadership

AAL Senior Consultant Dr. Paula O'Neill has served in faculty and leadership roles in health science education for more than more than 27 years. Since she began her career she has served as a medical educator and director/vice chair of multiple departments within teaching hospitals and medical schools. She is a tenured professor of Diagnostic Sciences and Associate Dean for Professional Development and Faculty Affairs at The University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston.

Tobias E. Rodriguez, Ph.D., Vice President for Education, Academy for Academic Leadership

Dr. Rodriguez serves as Vice President for Education at AAL. In this capacity he provides oversight as well as instruction to AAL's national programs in teaching and learning and leadership development.
