ADEA Research

A Commitment to Dental and Craniofacial Research

ADEA supports academic and scientific research that helps to advance safe and effective dental care and improves the development and delivery of dental education.

ADEA’s commitment to research aligns with its mission “to lead and support the health professions community in preparing future-ready oral health professionals.”

While ADEA has always supported research and advocated for research funding relevant to dentistry and dental education, the need is especially acute now due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This health crisis has forced dental education to think anew about how it prepares the next generation of dental professionals—prompting innovations in teaching and learning, competency assessment, teledentistry, infection control, management of physical safety and more. The investigation and assessment of these new methods and uses, with a focus on outcomes, is important to establishing best practices and evidence-based patient care.

ADEA supports the many talented researchers in our member schools and programs in pursing funding and conducting research. As a matter of policy, ADEA does not endorse specific research projects, nor does it issue RFPs for grants; however, ADEA advocates vigorously for research funding. Additionally, ADEA supports the funding and research initiatives of organizations such as the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) and the National Institutes of Health.
