Applicants who have the option of taking Spring 2020 non-prerequisite courses for a letter grade or Pass/Fail are encouraged to choose the graded option because the course will not factor into GPA calculations. Graded non-prerequisite courses are preferred. Pass/Fail non-prerequisite courses will also be acceptable for Spring 2020.ctor into GPA calculations. While graded non-prerequisite courses are preferred, Pass/Fail non-prerequisite courses will also be acceptable for Spring 2020.
  • Other: If a candidate's application is missing one or more required components due to extenuating circumstances caused by COVID-19 (e.g., Dental Admission Test scores or 30 hours of clinical dental experience) but the application is otherwise complete and verified, the candidate should provide a statement (a field will be provided in ADEA AADSAS®) explaining the situation and their plan/timeline for submitting the missing components. The UNE-CDM Admissions Committee will review the candidate's statement and may decide to begin evaluating the application materials prior to the receipt of the missing items. Thus, it is important that candidates complete all other components of their application as early in the cycle as possible to potentially avoid processing delays.

A new open-ended question has been added to the ADEA AADSAS® (Associated American Dental Schools Application Service) application where you can explain any impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on your preparation to apply to dental school this spring.

Each dental school will determine how responses to this question will be considered as part of their admissions process. You may edit your response at any time prior to submission. Once you have submitted your application, your response will be locked from editing.

Consider these questions as you formulate your response:

Academic

  • Did your school move to offering online-only coursework?
  • Did you have to leave an academic program?
  • Were the grades for your coursework, especially prerequisites, affected?
  • Was your Dental Admission Test (DAT) exam cancelled or delayed?
  • Did you lose the ability to interact with professors or advisors?

Professional

  • Was your job—paid or volunteer—affected?
  • Did you lose a job or seek new opportunities?
  • Was your shadowing experience shortened or modified?
  • Were your financial responsibilities shifted or increased?

Personal

  • Did you have to move out of a house or dorm?
  • Were you impacted by travel out of the country?
  • Did you seek out volunteer opportunities that arose from the crisis?
  • Did you help family members who were affected?

As you are at home practicing social distancing, put your best (virtual) foot forward with these steps:

  • Review your resume to ensure all experiences are included.

  • Write a strong essay about why you are choosing this profession.

  • Connect with faculty and advisors who will become your evaluators. Ask if their processes for writing evaluations has changed.

  • Gather materials to submit for the ADEA AADSAS Fee Assistance Program, if eligible. Updates will be made available in the Help Center.
