Heiko Spallek, Ph.D., D.M.D.,
M.B.A., was appointed Acting Dean at the University of Sydney School of Dentistry.
He will serve in this position for the 12 months while Chris Peck, B.D.S.,
M.Sc.Dent., Ph.D., GradDipSciMed (Pain Management), FICD, concentrates on his
leadership role in the University’s activities at the Westmead precinct.
Since early 2016, Dr. Spallek
has served as Pro-Dean, where his key responsibilities have included the
consolidation of the faculty’s operations and developing a strategic plan.
“During the last year, I have
worked closely with academic and professional staff, students and external
stakeholders on our strategic plan. The now-completed plan will serve as the
guide for what must be accomplished over the next 12 months and beyond,” says Dr.
Spallek. “Taking over stewardship from Dr. Peck is an immense honor, both personally
and professionally. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to benefit from
his vast experience and leadership, and in particular his mentoring and support.”
Dr. Spallek has worked closely
with the Dean and faculty leadership team as well as NSW Health and Local
Health Districts, and his appointment will ensure the continuity in the Faculty’s
