Harold J. “Hal” Haering,
D.M.D., has been appointed Dean of the Midwestern University College of Dental
Medicine-Illinois, effective Jan. 1, 2018. Dr. Haering succeeds M.A.J. Lex
MacNeil, D.D.S., who recently announced that he would be stepping down from the
Dr. Haering is a 1981 graduate
of the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. After serving as a
Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Public Health Service, Dr. Haering started a
general family practice in rural LaBelle, FL. After 28 years, he sold his
practice and was appointed a clinical instructor and course director at Nova
Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine.
Dr. Haering has been active in
dentistry during his career. He was appointed to the Florida Board of Dentistry
and served as Chair of the Board in 2003–2004. He served as a delegate to the American
Dental Association (ADA) and appointed to two ADA Councils (CAPIR and CDEL).
Previously, he served organized dentistry in numerous state roles, including
President of the Florida West Coast Dental Association and as Chair of Peer
Review. Dr. Haering is currently a site examiner for the Commission on Dental
Accreditation, Chair of the Quality Assurance Committee of the American Board
of Dental Examiners, a consultant to the ADA Council on Dental Benefit Programs
and is a NERB Board examiner.
Dr. Haering was appointed
Associate Dean of Clinical Education at CDMI in April 2015.
