West Los Angeles College (WLAC) hosted an all-day event this past June and welcomed 67 dental hygiene students from Naniwa Dental Hygiene School from Osaka, Japan. The event included a two-hour lecture and a two-hour instrumentation workshop for the Naniwa students.
WLAC students acted as assistant instructors, demonstrating alternative instrumentation skills and sharing what they had learned in the program with their Japanese counterparts.
This tradition of welcoming students from Japan has been ongoing for over 25 years, but it was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. After a three-year hiatus, the tradition was finally able to resume, and plans are already in the works for Naniwa students to return in summer 2024.
