Each year Anderson Family Dental in Anderson, IN, sponsors a Dental Day that allows individuals in the community to receive dental care at no charge. The event is staffed by the office’s dentists, hygienists, assistants and front office personnel who volunteer their time for this cause. For the past several years,
the dental hygiene and dental assisting programs at
Ivy Tech Community College have partnered with Anderson Family Dental to help staff Dental Day.
In August, approximately 26 dental hygiene and dental assisting students under the leadership of Professor Joyce Hudson participated in this year’s Dental Day. The students disinfected rooms, sterilized instruments, helped patients complete paperwork, walked patients to treatment rooms, and assisted the
dentists and dental hygienists during procedures. They served as dental professionals to approximately 70 citizens of the Anderson Community who don’t have the financial resources to receive care from a private dental office.

Many of the patients who received treatment had been in pain for a long time. According to Anderson Family Dental, “We couldn’t do it without the Ivy Tech support!”
