Prof. Tammy Conway works with local high school
students during the Health Sciences Summer Camp.
Hudson Valley Community College Dental Hygiene Department participated in the college’s first ever Health Sciences Summer Camp. Under the leadership of Tammy Conway, R.D.H., M.S., the program provided interactive, hands-on workshops for ninth and 10th grade
high school students.
Campers interacted with dental hygiene faculty and students and used the same simulation labs as dental hygiene students. Participants learned about various careers in dental hygiene and were provided insight on educational pathways to becoming a Registered Dental
“With the expertise of faculty and the availability to showcase our program during the summer months, it was great opportunity to help young people who may be interested in exploring health science careers,” says Ms. Conway. “The campers showed interest and
excitement to learn more about careers in dental hygiene.”
The Health Science Summer Camp began with a partnership of the Hudson Valley Community College Health Sciences and the Department of Community and Professional Education. The initiative was to build relationships with high school students and expose participants to
Health Science programs and career pathways.
