On May 14, 2022, the Eastern Washington University Department of Dental Hygiene will celebrate 50 years of smiles with an open house. The clinic continues to be an important resource for the community as dental hygiene students provide preventive and restorative care to the low socioeconomic and aging population in the Spokane County area of the state of Washington.

In addition, the school participates in an enhanced reimbursement program through Medicaid called Oral Health Connections to provide care for patients who have diabetes or women who are pregnant, and the clinic has the highest number of participants in this program in Washington.

During the open house event, there will be tours, special guest speakers, refreshments, a chance to enter your name to win prizes, and a celebration of a $150,000 contribution to the Diane E. McHenry Dental Hygiene Scholarship Endowment. Prof. McHenry helped start the department in 1972 and she also created the endowment. Over the decades, the endowment has continued to grow to support students pursuing degrees and careers as dental hygienists.

It is great to see 50 years of successful students and amazing faculty and staff!
