Hygiene Program were honored with this year’s SMILES Volunteer of the Year
Award from the Sealing
Molars Improves the Lives of Every Student (SMILES) program at the
Arlington Independent School District (ISD), based in Arlington, TX.
“You and your students’ enthusiasm and passion for helping
us to promote dental health education among elementary school students have
made a significant impact on our community. Your willingness to provide the
time and expertise of your hygiene students to help educate young minds about
the importance of oral hygiene, as well as help to provide them with fluoride
and sealants, is truly commendable, and we are incredibly grateful for your
invaluable support. You have undoubtedly made a difference in the lives of
countless Arlington children, and we are grateful for your continued support,”
said Lilia Ortiz-Grelard, M.H.L., RDH, Interim Executive Director and Clinical
Director of Dental Health
Arlington, in the award letter to Lisa Mayo, M.H.A., B.S.D.H., RDH, the
Academic Chair for Dental Hygiene, Dental Assisting and Surgical Technology at
Dallas College.
Throughout the year, Dallas College dental hygiene students
visited various Arlington elementary schools, bringing dental equipment,
promoting good dental hygiene and providing preventive dental care for
elementary school children in underserved areas of the community.
