Call for Nominations for Chair-elect of the 2025-26 ADEA Board of Directors

ADEA members are invited to nominate candidates for the Association’s 2025-26 Chair-elect of the ADEA Board of Directors. The ADEA Nominating Committee consists of the Immediate Past Chair of the ADEA Board of Directors and the seven Board Directors representing each ADEA Council.

The nominations process for the Chair-elect of the ADEA Board of Directors is as follows:

  • A call for nominations is placed in the Bulletin of Dental Education and the Journal of Dental Education.
  • All ADEA members are invited to nominate as many individuals as they wish, including themselves.
  • The ADEA Council Administrative Boards are also invited to nominate candidates; however, these boards will not be informed of the identity of the other candidates. To maintain confidentiality, only the ADEA Nominating Committee and ADEA President and CEO will have knowledge of the identity of the names of persons nominated through this process.
  • In addition to receiving nominations, the ADEA Nominating Committee may actively seek qualified candidates.
  • Each nominee should submit by Nov. 1, 2024: (1) a narrative statement (one page maximum) of their vision for the position, how that vision aligns with ADEA’s strategic directions (adea.org/StrategicDirections) and their qualifications; and (2) a separate 300 dpi head-and-shoulders photograph. (Note: Statements over the one-page limit will be returned.)
  • Between Nov. 1 and Dec. 1, 2024, the ADEA Nominating Committee will meet to recommend one or more candidates to stand for election.
  • Delegates to the 2025 ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition in National Harbor, MD, will vote during the course of the Annual Session, and the 2025-26 Chair-elect of the ADEA Board of Directors will be announced at the Closing Session of the ADEA House of Delegates.

Nominations, with the one-page candidate statement and a separate head-and-shoulders photograph (high-resolution 300 dpi), should be mailed in confidence to:

ADEA Policies and Procedures Regarding Campaign Activities During Elections for Chair-elect of the ADEA Board of Directors and Council Elected Officers

(As approved by the ADEA Board of Directors on June 14, 2023)

The Office of the ADEA President and CEO and ADEA Council staff liaisons will distribute to all nominees for Chair-elect of the ADEA Board of Directors and candidates for Council elected officer positions the ADEA Policies and Procedures Regarding Campaign Activities During Elections for Chair-elect of the ADEA Board of Directors and Council Elected Officers in a timely fashion following the announcement of candidacy for these offices.

Campaign Activities for Chair-elect of the ADEA Board of Directors

Candidates for Chair-elect approved by the ADEA Board of Directors are permitted to have a personal statement and photo published in the December Bulletin of Dental Education, on the ADEA website and in the House of Delegates manual. All candidates are also permitted to submit, if desired, one additional campaign statement of 500 words or less to the ADEA Manager for Governance no sooner than 30 days prior to the date of the Opening Session of the ADEA House of Delegates. The ADEA Manager for Governance will ensure timely distribution of these campaign statements to all credentialed delegates. ADEA will not provide candidates with email lists or other contact information for delegates but will provide Council Administrative Board members’ contact information. No campaign promotional materials can be created or distributed, including but not limited to items such as flyers, posters, buttons, stickers, etc., before or during the ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition.

All candidates will have scheduled visits with the seven ADEA Councils during Council meetings at the beginning of the ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition. The ADEA staff board liaison, in consultation with the ADEA Manager for Governance, will schedule the Council visits, which are not to exceed 10 minutes. During these visits, candidates will have the opportunity to share their vision and ideas that they would intend to bring to ADEA if elected. Candidates are also permitted to invite questions from delegates in each Council during these visits within their allotted 10-minute time. Candidates are not permitted to make statements during these visits that refer directly or indirectly to any of the other candidates. Candidates will be accompanied only by an ADEA staff member on the Council visits. ADEA members are not permitted to accompany the candidate during the Council visits. Candidates are not permitted to organize or hold any campaign-related social events during the ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition.

Campaign Activities for Council Elected Officer Positions

Candidates for Council elected officer positions of Board Director, Chair, Chair-elect, Secretary and Member-at-Large (Council Administrative Board positions) are permitted to submit for posting through the ADEA staff liaison, if desired, one campaign statement of 500 words or less on the relevant Council ADEA Connect Community. Posting of the statement can occur no sooner than 30 days prior to the date of the Opening Session of the ADEA House of Delegates. ADEA will not provide candidates with email lists or other contact information for Council members but candidates may contact members through the ADEA Connect Community prior to the ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition. Candidates are not permitted to create or distribute campaign promotional materials, including but not limited to items such as flyers, posters, buttons, stickers, etc., before or during the ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition.

All candidates will have the opportunity to address their Council during either the Business or Caucus meetings of their Council during the ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition. The ADEA staff liaison to each Council will coordinate the fair scheduling and duration of the in-person addresses with the sitting Council Administrative Board officers. During these addresses, candidates will have the opportunity to share their vision and ideas that they would intend to bring to their Council and ADEA if elected. Candidates are permitted to invite questions from Council members during these in-person addresses. Candidates are not permitted to make statements during these addresses that refer directly or indirectly to any of the other candidates on the slate. Candidates are not permitted to organize or hold any campaign-related social events during the ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition.
