A message from Karen West, D.M.D., M.P.H., ADEA President and CEO:

ADEA is making changes to in-person events for the upcoming year. I have decided to cancel all in-person meetings through Dec. 31, 2020. This is to ensure the safety of our members and staff as well as to be cognizant of the difficulty, both financially and logistically, that our member institutions and their programs may incur to attend in person. ADEA will be utilizing all available formats to present relevant information in a modality that ensures understanding and participation in a reasonable manner. We are committed to serving our members, sharing information and resources, and staying engaged during this challenging time.

In addition, we have made the decision to transform our 2021 ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition into a completely virtual event.

We’re excited about creating this experience, and we believe our decision to embrace a virtual conference gives both presenters and attendees a measure of certainty in uncertain times.

We had planned for an in-person conference in Boston next March, but the health risks, economic hardships and logistical complications introduced by the COVID-19 pandemic forced us to rethink our plans.

One thing that hasn’t changed is our commitment to deliver an Annual Session in March that will expose you to some of the best minds in dental education. The virtual conference will be engaging, creative and interactive. And it will allow you to connect and network with a variety of highly regarded professionals from inside and outside of academic dentistry. The 2021 ADEA Annual Session dates, March 13-16, 2021, remain the same as well but within that time period, scheduling will take into account different time zones and computer fatigue in order to give you the most productive meeting possible.

Coming now, this decision gives our Annual Session Program Committee, and ADEA staff, plenty of time to design and implement a winning virtual experience for everyone.

Our vision for this year, from our Chair of the ADEA Board Ryan Quock, D.D.S., is “We.” That theme will be on ample display during the 2021 ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition as “we” share insights and solutions to the rapidly changing landscape in front of us. Together, we will chart a path forward.

We will share more details as they develop. For now, I invite you to submit your program by the June 15 deadline and share the 2021 ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition Call for Programs with others whom you believe would like to present during the conference.

I wish you and your loved ones well during these challenging times.
