ADEA recently released its annual data report,
U.S. Dental School Applicants and
Enrollees, 2021 Entering Class
. The spreadsheet report provides a comprehensive view of applicants to and first-time, first-year enrollees in the 2021 U.S. predoctoral dental school entering class. The report analyzes data from ADEA AADSAS® (ADEA Associated American Dental
Schools Application System) and the Texas Medical & Dental Schools Application Services. This report does not include data for California Northstate University College of Dental Medicine, as the school did not use the ADEA AADSAS service for their 2021 entering class.
The report includes analysis of several characteristics of Historically Underrepresented Race and Ethnicity (HURE) applicants, inclucing age, gender, state of residence at time of application and major fields of study. The corresponding 2019 analysis is available in the ADEA publication
Slow to Change: HURE Groups in Dental
Education
.
In addition to the spreadsheet report, the demographic (including both gender and race/ethnicity) and educational characteristics of applicants and enrollees to U.S. dental schools in 2021 are published in a series of interactive graphics. For example,
users can browse a U.S. map and see data for each state with the number of applicants and first-time, first year enrollees who were legal residents of the state at the time they applied. Users can access trend data for a 21-year period from 2000−2021.
The data report and interactive graphics are available on ADEA’s
Applicants, Enrollees and Graduates webpage and the interactive graphics can be accessed directly through ADEA’s
2021 Applicants and First-time, First-year Enrollees webpage.
