It is with much regret that we announce that the 2020 ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition—Discover Your Pathway—along with the 2020 ADEA GoDental Recruitment Event and the William J. Gies Awards for Vision, Innovation and Achievement (Gies Awards) gala, on March 14-17 in National Harbor, MD, have been cancelled due to spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
After discussions with the ADEA principal officers and Board of Directors and with much deliberation, we feel that it is our responsibility to safeguard the health of all honored guests, students, attendees, presenters, exhibitors and staff who contribute to this important event. This is an unprecedented decision but necessary if we are to uphold the ethical principles on which our profession exists, that of “do no harm.”
In the coming days, you will receive additional information about governance, elections, refunds and other associated topics that must be addressed. Please continue to check the ADEA website at ADEA.org for continuing updates about these items.
We urge you to contact your hotel to cancel your room reservation at least 72 hours in advance of when you were scheduled to arrive. The list of conference hotels and phone numbers are provided in the FAQs on ADEA.org. Most major airlines are currently waiving change/cancellation fees for tickets purchased for March travel.
We would like to thank everyone that provided the ADEA offices with a multitude of knowledgeable input and reasoned opinions that helped us make this decision. Our member community has risen to the public health challenge that is facing us today and we stand strong as an organization to support and protect our patients and our academic dental institutions as they continue to serve and educate.
