U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, M.D.; U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams, M.D., M.P.H.; and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Acting Director Anne Schuchat, M.D.; were among the many federal officials addressing stakeholders at a U.S. Chamber of Commerce event on combating the opioid crisis from communities to the capital. They were joined by Senate Investigations Subcommittee Chairman Rob Portman (R-OH), Rep. Greg Walden (R-OR) and Department of Justice Narcotic and Dangerous Drug Section Chief Arthur Wyatt, J.D. Rep. Walden, who is Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, stated he would like the House to pass legislation to address the opioid crisis by this Memorial Day.

At the Chamber of Commerce event, ADEA joined other stakeholders to learn about the myriad of initiatives being undertaken to combat the epidemic in the public and private sectors. ADEA will continue to keep members apprised of initiatives in government as well as inform policy makers of what dental schools are doing to tackle the opioid epidemic.
