The National
Advisory Dental and Craniofacial Research Council held its 218th meeting on May
25, where it highlighted an ADEA report on the role of dental
education in the prevention of opioid misuse. Many of the approved concepts
dealt directly with orofacial pain management.
Dr. Roland Owens, Associate Director of the NIH Office of
Intramural Research, and Dr. Robert Angerer, Scientific Director of NIDCR’s
Intramural Program, spoke in-depth about how the intramural research conducted
at NIDCR supports basic, translational, and clinical research and training to
advance understanding of biological processes relevant to dental, oral and
craniofacial health.
ADEA is working with its dental health coalition members to
keep cutting-edge research opportunities open for dental faculty,
practitioners, and students. We also are pleased to see the work we are doing
on the opioid epidemic has been recognized by NIDCR.
