In late July, Vermont Technical College (VTC) received a $400,000
grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to
develop its dental therapy program. The grant is expected to pay for building a
simulation lab, purchasing equipment and other supplies.
In 2016, Vermont became the third state to pass legislation
that allows licensing of dental therapists. VTC’s program is poised to become
the first dental therapy program in the state and is seeking accreditation by the
Commission on Dental Accreditation. The college expects to enroll 10 students
in the spring of 2020.
