On Aug. 14, Governor Bruce Rauner signed the Illinois
Career Preservation and Student Loan Repayment Act. The law ends the
Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation’s practice of
suspending or terminating professional licenses of individuals who fall behind
on monthly student loan payments.
After passage of this law, 19
states will still allow for the seizure or suspension of state-issued
licenses, including professional licenses, driver’s licenses and other
specified state-issued licenses.
