Event Description

July 10   |   3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time

Chair of the ADEA Board Honors

Each year, the Chair of the ADEA Board of Directors recognizes a select group of individuals for their extraordinary service to the Association and the dental education community. This year, the awards take on greater meaning as we pay tribute to the late Dr. Henry Gremillion, Immediate Past Chair of the ADEA Board and Dean of the Louisiana State University Health New Orleans School of Dentistry, who passed away on May 18, 2020. Through the heartfelt remarks by awards recipients, ADEA will highlight the work and legacy of one of its brightest thought leaders, colleagues and friends—and celebrate the honorees that Dr. Gremillion had selected before his passing.

July 17   |   3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time

Chair of the ADEA Board of Directors Symposium—Celebrating Diversity Through Teaching Strategies and Administrative Policies

Every academic dental institution must maintain a humanistic environment that is respectful of faculty, staff, students and patients, regardless of race, ethnicity, sex, gender identity, nationality, socioeconomic status or any other element of diversity. The most inclusive institutions celebrate these differences to make a safe, welcoming environment for all. Hear from colleagues on this issue, access tools for exploring and teaching implicit bias. We will explore ways to create and measure a humanistic institutional climate through policies, training, development and assessment best practices.

July 22   |   3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time

Chair of the ADEA Board of Directors Symposium—Faculty Development for Student Enrichment: Gauging Dental Faculty Burnout and Creating a Culture of Resilience

Dentistry is an inherently stressful practice. Dental school faculty have additional responsibilities outside of patient care—including research, education, mentorship and administrative responsibilities—that can lead to work-related stress, making faculty uniquely positioned to develop burnout. Resilience means “bouncing back” from difficult experiences such as trauma, tragedy, threats or significant sources of stress (family, relationships, health, workplace and/or financial stressors). Are there best practices for reducing burnout among faculty and creating a culture of resilience in dental schools? Complete a burnout self-assessment, identify ways to create change in your school and brainstorm cultural ways to reduce stress and promote resilience. Registrants will have the opportunity to submit questions to our esteemed panelists in advance or ask questions during the live event.
