2018 ADEA Awards Program


Each year, ADEA recognizes achievement and distinction among its members. The following dental educators, researchers and students are being honored at the 2018 ADEA Annual Session and Exhibition in Orlando, FL.

Dr. Thomas F. Nowlin served in several roles within the Council of Sections and was well known for his collegiality, positive attitude, creativity, honor, ethics and dedication to the craft of dental education. This award honors his memory, contributions, and leadership

This fellowship provides an academic dental institution faculty member who has shown potential for leadership with the opportunity to participate in the ADEA Leadership Institute. The fellowship is in memory of Dominick DePaola, D.D.S., Ph.D., who for nearly four decades was a leader in dental education, research, patient care and academic administration.

Each year, the American Association of Endodontists Foundation partners with ADEA to sponsor an endodontic educator’s participation in the ADEA Leadership Institute.

ADEA/ADEAGies Foundation Drs. Connie L. and Richard R. Drisko Scholar in the ADEA Leadership Institute

The Drisko Scholarship provides the opportunity annually for a mid-career dental school faculty member who has shown evidence of leadership potential to participate in the ADEA Leadership Institute. Funding for the scholarship is provided through the generosity of Drs. Drisko.

ADEA/ADEAGies Foundation Dr. Anthony R. Volpe Scholar in the ADEA Leadership Institute

The Volpe scholarship provides an annual opportunity for one mid-career dental school educator who has shown evidence of leadership potential and has been accepted into the ADEA Leadership Institute. This award was established by a generous commitment by Dr. Anthony R. Volpe to the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) and its ADEAGies Foundation.

ADEA Leadership Institute Phase V Leadership Development Tuition Scholarship - ADEA Summer Program for Emerging Academic Leaders

This scholarship was created to enable a junior faculty member (up to three years of experience) to participate in the ADEA Summer Program for Emerging Academic Leaders. The awardee was nominated by an ADEA Leadership Institute alumnus or alumna.

The ADEA/Sigma Phi Alpha Linda DeVore Scholarship is awarded to an individual pursuing allied dental education studies at the baccalaureate, master’s or doctoral degree level. The scholarship memorializes the 30-year dental education career of Linda Rubinstein DeVore. Prof. DeVore was active in dental hygiene education, scholarship and public service. She served as President of the American Association of Dental Schools (now ADEA) in 1994 and as the 1997-98 President of the Supreme Chapter of Sigma Phi Alpha, the national honorary society of the dental hygiene profession.
