National Study of Postsecondary Faculty (NSOPF)

Faculty and instructors have a direct impact on the quality of postsecondary education. They make key decisions regarding curriculum content, student performance standards, and the quality of students' preparation for careers.

The National Study of Postsecondary Faculty (NSOPF) provides insights and understanding of faculty members, including who they are, what they do, and how they are changing as a demographic group.

Particularly helpful to researchers, planners, and policymakers, the report takes a representative sample of full-time and part-time faculty and instructional staff at public and private two-year and four-year non-profit institutions and examines:

  • Nature of employment
  • Academic/professional background
  • Instructional responsibilities and workload
  • Scholarly activities
  • Job satisfaction
  • Compensation, and
  • Sociodemographic characteristics and opinions.
