 2008 Survey of New Dentists 

The ADA defines a "new dentist" as one who graduated from dental school within the past ten years. This interesting survey profiles new dentists in 2007, revealing that they:

  • Earned an average net income from their primary practice of $203,340
  • Entered dental school with $8,630 in educational debt, and
  • Graduated with $135,460 in educational debt.  

Demographic data and characteristics round out the profile, with information on:

  • Educational and non-educational debt
  • Practice choices
  • Satisfaction with the profession, and
  • Benefits and compensation. 

The survey covers new dentists who own their practices, employees/associates, independent contractors, and new dentists in the federal services.
