ADEA/Crest Oral-B Scholarship for Students Pursuing Academic Careers 

Purpose
The American Dental Education Association (ADEA) and The Procter & Gamble Company announce the ADEA/Crest Oral-B Scholarship for Dental Hygiene Students Pursuing Academic Careers. This scholarship supports dental hygiene students who are pursuing education beyond an associate’s degree and who have an interest in an academic career.

Overview
Each year two dental hygiene students receive the ADEA/Crest Oral-B Scholarship. Each scholarship recipient receives $2,000 to be applied to tuition and fees.

Application Deadline
All applications must be received on or before November 2, 2009. Electronic submissions are not accepted. Receipt of entries cannot be acknowledged. All application materials must be received as one packet.

Eligibility
An applicant must:

  • have graduated from an accredited dental hygiene program with an associate’s degree or certificate to practice dental hygiene
  • be enrolled in a baccalaureate degree completion program or graduate degree program at an ADEA Member Institution
  • show a commitment to pursuing an academic career in dental hygiene
  • be an ADEA Individual Member

Both part-time and full-time students are eligible. Priority will be given to qualified candidates enrolled in baccalaureate degree completion programs.

Application Process Checklist
Submit the following on or before November 2, 2009:

  • the completed application form
  • transcripts with evidence of graduation from an accredited dental hygiene program
  • a copy of a valid license to practice dental hygiene in the United States
  • a personal statement from the candidate not to exceed two pages, detailing his or her experiences, influences, and decision-making that demonstrate a firm commitment to becoming an allied dental faculty member
  • individual letters of nomination and evaluation from two faculty members that address the candidate’s career goals
  • a letter of recommendation from the student’s dean, dental hygiene director, or equivalent

Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Notification Date and Award Announcement
Scholarship recipients will be notified on or before January 15, 2009. Awards will be presented at a ceremony during the 2010 ADEA Annual Session in Washington, DC, February 27 – March 3.

Authorized Signatory
The completed application must be signed by one of the following:

  • Dental school dean
  • Program director
  • Academic dean
  • Person with equivalent academic rank
