Connect, Converge and Collaborate at the
2015 ADEA Fall Meetings

This October at the 2015 ADEA Fall Meetings, dental educators, administrators and students will come together in the “Windy City” to explore the critical issues affecting dental education from all angles. ADEA Councils and Sections will meet to conduct their necessary mid-year business. The buzz from thought-provoking plenary sessions and collaborative small-group discussions will spill over to networking events, where attendees will have the opportunity to make new and renewed connections.

The highly collaborative atmosphere of the ADEA Fall Meetings offers a unique environment for those with diverse professional roles and interests to find common ground, and to learn from the varying perspectives that together move dental education forward.

Join us. Our interactions over these three days will challenge us to think differently about our work, provide us the tools to spark innovation, and leave us better prepared to help define the future of academic dentistry.

2015 ADEA Fall Meetings Program Highlights

The Nuances of Navigating a Corporate, Academia, Health Care Relationship—Ethical, Legal and Practical Solutions
Thursday, October 29 | Presented by the ADEA Council of Sections, ADEA Corporate Council and ADEA Council of Faculties

Industry is a major source of research funding and scientific investigation. Disseminating new technologies and therapies would be challenging without industry’s critical participation, and many recent oral health breakthroughs and improvements reflect successful academic and industry collaborations. However, despite recognition of industry’s critical partnership role with universities, there is often contention or misunderstanding about the appropriate role of industry in supporting curriculum development and/or providing scientific and product-related education to students and residents. Legal and regulatory requirements, including the Open Payment or Sunshine Act, and conflict of interest policies can impact industry/university relations and influence collaborative efforts related to curriculum support, research and development. This panel presentation will explore ways that industry and academic leaders can more effectively collaborate to improve scientific discovery, product development and adoption, and curriculum development with the goals of improving dental education, dental care delivery and oral health.
