New this year: All ADEA members are invited to participate in the keynote, plenary sessions, and full-day program regarding Diversity and Access to Dental Careers: Building Capacity for the Future.

Take this opportunity  to immerse yourself in the critical workforce issues that will shape dental education for decades to come. Three dimensions of diversity (structural diversity, classroom diversity, and institutional diversity) will be addressed in a morning plenary session led by Dr. Kevin Barnett. Breakout sessions will focus on how each participating group can identify specific steps to incorporate the dimensions of diversity into academic dental institutions. In the afternoon, Dr. Joshua Aronson will share his expertise about “stereotype threat” and its impact on admissions decisions. Breakout sessions will allow participants to identify how stereotype threat manifests itself in predoctoral and postdoctoral admissions, and how it can be addressed. Participants will gain insights and expertise on:

  • Dimensions of diversity beyond inclusion of underrepresented minority students
  • Diversity’s impact on education and accreditation
  • Roles for new oral health professionals

Learn more about what this full day program means for each participating ADEA group.

Keynote speaker Mr. Derrick N. Ashong will initiate the event with "Inspiring Leadership in Challenging Times," a thought-provoking perspective on changes yet to come and how they will help us better meet our community’s oral health needs.

During the final plenary, Dr. James J. Koelbl and Dr. Susan J. Crim will present the draft ADEA Guiding Principles on the Education of New Oral Health Professionals.  Attendees will have the opportunity to provide feedback on the document through an automatic response system (ARS).
