Q: What is the Centralized Criminal Background Check
A: The American Dental Education
Association (ADEA) PASS is implementing a new service for
dental programs that wish to obtain a criminal background check on
all admitted applicants. Individuals who are extended offers of
admission to participating advanced dental education programs will
be contacted by Certiphi® Screening Inc. after the admissions offer
has been made to conduct a background check.
Q: Which programs are participating in the Centralized
Criminal Background Check Service?
A: A list of participating advanced dental
education programs participating in CBC can be found here.
Q. If I am accepted to both a program participating in
the CBC program and a non-participating program, what communication
should I expect from Certiphi Screening?
A: Certiphi Screening sends each accepted applicant three emails
regarding the criminal background check: the first email is sent as
soon as we are notified of your acceptance by ADEA PASS; if you
have not logged into our system and authorized the background check
after 10 days, you receive a second email reminding you to do so;
and if you still have not logged in after 20 days, a third email
reminder is sent. If you opt to attend a non-participating program,
please disregard all three emails, as they apply only to applicants
accepted to participating ADEA PASS programs.
Q: What is the cost of the Centralized Criminal
Background Check Service?
A: The applicant is responsible for the cost
for CBC. At the time of request, Certiphi® will pre-authorize your
credit card for a "not to exceed" amount of $200 ($300 for New York
residents due to access fees charged by the state). At the time the
report is delivered, the pre-authorized funds will be released
immediately with a final total billed to the credit card. Certiphi
will notify you of final charges on the report delivery page of www.ApplicationStation.com.
Q: If I designate a program NOT participating in the CBC
program, do I have to have a criminal background
A: Programs not participating in our new
service may also require applicants to undergo a separate national
background check process. Contact your designated programs directly
for specific policies.

facilitated by ADEA PASS and conducted by ADEA's selected vendor,
