Q: What is the American Dental Education Association (ADEA)?

A: ADEA is the leading national organization for dental education. Our members include all U.S. and Canadian dental schools as well as advanced dental education programs, hospital dental education programs, allied dental education programs, corporations, faculty, and students.

Q: What is the ADEA Postdoctoral Application Support Service (ADEA PASS)?

A: ADEA PASS is a centralized application service for more than 555 participating advanced dental education programs. This service is available to all individuals applying to advanced dental education programs participating in the application service. ADEA PASS simplifies the application process by providing one standardized format, relieving applicants of the need to complete multiple applications. ADEA PASS serves only as an information clearinghouse and does not influence programs’ appraisal or selection of applicants. Each advanced dental education program has the right to request supplemental information from the applicants.

Q: What browser should I use, and what are the technical specifications concerning viewing and completing the online application?

A:   BROWSER REQUIREMENTS: For the optimal browsing of the site, use Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 or a later release. You may also use Firefox 3.x (or higher), Chrome, or Safari.

  • Internet access
  • JavaScript must be enabled
  • Cookies must be enabled
  • Pop-up windows are used, so pop-up blockers must be disabled
  • A monitor resolution of at least 800x600 is required; 1024x768 or larger is preferred
  • It is recommended that the browser window be maximized to take up the entire screen
  • As Microsoft no longer supports Internet Explorer for MacIntosh computers, Mac users are advised to use Safari or Firefox.

In order to view and print Transcript and Letters of Evaluation Matching Request Forms you will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Q: I completed a ADEA PASS application last year. Can that application be used for this year?

A: Applications submitted in previous years cannot be reactivated. Therefore, you must submit all new application materials on the appropriate forms for the current application cycle.

Q: Where can I fill out the application?

A: Go to the ADEA PASS website, click on the link for applicants in the left hand panel, and follow the link to the application. You can also directly access your ADEA PASS application by going to www.passweb.org.

Q: What are the processing fees?

A: The base processing fee for the first program (including one essay) is $175, and each additional program is $53. Additional essays for Custom Application are $35 each.

If you are applying to additional programs after your original application has been eSubmitted, the processing fee will be $53 for each additional program.

Q: I forgot my username and password - how can I obtain them again?

A:
To obtain your password, go to the ADEA PASS website, click "Applicants" in the left hand panel, and follow the link to the application. Click the “Forgot Your Password” link and follow the instructions on the screen.

Q: Is the ADEA PASS site secure enough to use my credit card number?

A: Yes. It is very secure. The use of the latest cutting edge technology ensures that your application experience will be safe and secure. We encrypt your personal information, including your name, address, and credit card number, when transmitting over the Internet using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) security software. You may notice “https:” in the address bar or an unbroken key or a closed lock at the bottom of the page when you enter our payment page. This means that your browser has opened a secure connection with our site! You can also check by looking at the URL line of your browser. When accessing a secure server, the first characters of the site address will change from "http" to "https."

Q: How do I register for Match?

A: Applicants seeking postdoctoral positions that utilize the Dental Match will be able to register for this service within the ADEA PASS applicant portal. You can register for Match when you first create your account. You do not have to participate in the 2010 ADEA PASS application cycle to register for Match; however, you will need to create an account, register for Match, and submit your Match registration payment.

Q: How do I monitor my Match status?

A: Applicants that have registered only for the Postdoctoral Dental Matching Program in the ADEA PASS application portal will have to contact the National Matching Service, Inc. for all inquiries.

Q: What is a Standard Application?

A: A Standard Application is one that allows the applicant to submit one essay, dental school transcript(s), Institution Evaluation Form, and up to three Professional Evaluation Forms through ADEA PASS to all selected programs.

Q: What is a Custom Application, and how can I submit one?

A: A Custom Application is one that allows the applicant to designate different essays and Professional Evaluations to specific programs, for an additional fee. Each additional essay is $35.

Q: Can I start my application and come back to it at a later date?

A: Yes. You are able to save the application and come back later to complete it. You may log in and work on it as often as you wish. Just be sure to remember your username and password.

Q: Why are there two different deadlines?

A: We encourage applicants to have their documents submitted to PASS by the PASS deadline in order to allow time for processing; however, as long as your application and all required documents are received by the program deadline date, your application will met the program's deadline.

Q: How long will it take to process my application?

A: ADEA PASS begins releasing applications to programs in mid July. Once you have designated and submitted your application your selected programs will have immediate access to your application. The completion date will vary depending upon when your documents arrive in our office. Once all required documents (Dental School Transcripts, Institutional Evaluation, Professional Evaluations) have been received, your application will be marked as complete. You will need to monitor the status of your application.

Q: How do I apply to more programs after eSubmitting my application?

A: Log in to your ADEA PASS application and click on the Program Designations link in your Application Checklist. You may then add more programs by clicking the
button. You will then need to assign an essay and professional evaluations to your new programs. Click the Pay Now button to submit your Additional Program Designations.

Q: How long does it take to process an Additional Program Designation?

A: ADEA PASS processes Additional Program Designations as promptly as possible. If an Additional Program Designation is received prior to sending your ADEA PASS application to your originally designated programs and prior to the ADEA PASS deadline, and all Required Documents have been received by ADEA PASS, your application will be delivered to the program by its application deadline. If your application has already been delivered to programs, your Additional Designations will be sent in the next mailing.
