Reapplying: ADEA AADSAS makes it easier to re-apply to dental school.

ADEA AADSAS has implemented a process that allows a student who applied to dental school during the previous application cycle to import certain information from that application into their 2013 ADEA AADSAS application.  ADEA AADSAS recommends that all re-applicants read the instructions and FAQs pertaining to re-applying to dental schools.  An applicants' previous application materials must have been completed and mailed to dental schools in the 2012 cycle to utilize this feature in 2013.

To utilize this process, students will need their log-in information from the previous 2012 ADEA AADSAS cycle.  Click on the Reapplicant link on the 2013 ADEA AADSAS application home screen and follow the instructions.

Georgia Health Sciences University - College of Dental Medicine

The Georgia Health Sciences University College of Dental Medicine (GHSU) (formerly Medical College of Georgia) will be accepting ADEA AADSAS applications for the class entering in August 2013.

The GHSU College of Dental Medicine, located 2 ½ hours east of Atlanta, accepted its first class in 1970. After 41 years, a new clinical facility was dedicated in September 2011 with “state of the art” simulation lab and clinics. It is in these clinics that the dental school’s diagonal curriculum continues, as the students are exposed to patient care beginning their sophomore year.

Ultimately, clinical space is available for 100 students per class. Currently, the class size is anticipated to be 80 students comprised primarily of Georgia residents. However, five percent of the class will be students from out of state who prove to be highly competitive. Visit GHSU today for more information.  www.georgiahealth.edu/dentalmedicine/

Missouri School of Dentistry & Oral Health (ATSU)

A.T. Still University (ATSU) – Missouri School of Dentistry & Oral Health in Kirksville, Missouri is accepting applications through ADEA AADSAS for its 2013 inaugural class of 40 students. ATSU identified the need for more dentists in Missouri and proposed to create a dental school in Kirksville, MO., the home of osteopathic medicine, where a whole new generation of community-minded dentists will help fill oral health workforce gaps across the state. A.T. Still University – Missouri School of Dentistry & Oral Health is seeking initial accreditation from the Commission on Dental Accreditation. Anticipated accreditation status will be received in February of 2013. Visit ATSU for more information www.atsu.edu.

DAT Scores Imported Directly into ADEA AADSAS Application

Applicants no longer self-report DAT scores in their ADEA AADSAS application.  ADEA AADSAS will obtain your official DAT scores directly from the American Dental Association’s Testing Services Center and will import them directly into your application.  If you take the DAT after your ADEA AADSAS application has been sent to your designated dental schools, an updated application, reflecting your DAT scores will be forwarded to schools just as soon as the scores are received.

Criminal Background Checks

ADEA AADSAS implemented a criminal background checks service for dental schools that wish to obtain a criminal background check on all admitted students.  Individuals who are extended offers of admission to participating dental schools will be contacted by Certiphi Screening, Inc. after the admissions offer has been made to conduct a background check.

Note: Not all dental schools participate in this service; some dental schools conduct criminal background checks using other processes, and some dental schools do not currently require a criminal background check.  Watch for more details about criminal background checks.

Applicants are instructed in the ADEA AADSAS application to provide information about any misdemeanors or felony charges or convictions.  Failure to disclose is a serious matter and may affect an applicant’s admission to dental school.
