Q: What standardized tests are required to apply to dental
school?
A: Dental schools require applicants to have
taken either the Dental Admissions Test (DAT) or the Canadian
Dental Aptitude Test. Information about the two tests are available

Q: What test scores are displayed on my ADEA AADSAS
application?
A: Your most recently downloaded DAT test
scores are displayed in your ADEA AADSAS application. These
official scores are downloaded from the ADA, once you have
requested the scores be sent to an ADEA AADSAS participating dental
school. Keep in mind, however, that Canadian DAT scores are still
self-reported by applicants; Any updates to your Canadian DAT
Scores should be reported by you, by logging into your application
and updating the "Canadian DAT Score" section of your
application.
Q:If I have multiple DAT scores.Will
all of the scores be reported in the ADEA AADSAS
application?
A: Yes. ADEA AADSAS downloads up to four sets
of DAT scores. Note that you are allowed to take the DAT test up to
three times; in exceptional cases, applicants may make a special
request to the American Dental Association to take the DAT a fourth
time.
Q:When I register for the DAT, do I
designate which dental schools to release my DAT
scores?
A: When you register for the DAT, you are
encouraged to indicate the dental schools where you would like your
scores to be sent. This will ensure that each of these schools can
receive your DAT scores directly from the American Dental
Association, in addition to your scores being reported through ADEA
AADSAS.We realize that when you sign up for the DAT, you may not
have decided which dental schools you will be applying to.As long
as you have indicated at least one ADEA AADSAS-participating dental
school in your DAT registration, your official DAT scores will be
imported into your ADEA AADSAS application.ADEA AADSAS includes
your official DAT scores in your application that is sent to every
dental school you have designated in your ADEA AADSAS
application.
Please note that you should contact the ADA to send your DAT
scores to any additional dental schools you did not designate in
your original DAT application. This will ensure that dental schools
received your DAT scores on your ADEA AADSAS application as well as
directly from the ADA. Please read the ADA's policy below on
releasing DAT scores.
ADA Permission Policy-Please Read
All U.S. dental schools require official DAT scores for each
examinee. Official scores are reported electronically to the dental
schools you select on your DAT application. When you select dental
schools to receive your official scores, you grant the Department
of Testing Services permission to release your official scores to
the dental schools you selected on your DAT application.
Additionally, when you select dental schools on your DAT
application that participate in a standardized application service
(ADEA AADSAS or TMDSAS), the Department of Testing Services will
report your official scores to the application services. If your
DAT application has no dental schools selected, then you have not
granted permission to the Department of Testing Services to release
your official scores and your official scores will not be forwarded
to the standardized application services.
Schools selected at the time of application are included in the
DAT fee regardless of the number of schools selected. You can also
request that a score report be sent to your predental advisor at no
charge at the time of application. The Department of Testing
Services will accept updates to the schools you selected if you
submit the update prior to your testing appointment. To update your
selections, complete the PDF Score Report Request form available at
www.ada.org and e-mail to datexam@ada.org or fax to
312.587.4105.
Q: I am re-taking the DAT. Do I need to submit my new
scores to ADEA AADSAS?
A: No. If you are an ADEA AADSAS applicant,
ADEA AADSAS will receive updated scores throughout the cycle and
will send new scores to your designated dental schools.
For more information on registering for a DENTPIN®, please
contact the ADA.
Q: If I applied last year and my DAT scores were
reported to ADEA AADSAS, will I need to have my scores submitted
again for the 2014 application cycle?
A: No. If you had your official DAT scores sent
to ADEA AADSAS in the previous 2011-2012 or 2012-2013 cycle, your
scores will be carried over to your application for the 2014
cycle.
Note: When registering for the DAT, the
candidate must select the dental schools that they wish to receive
their scores. Candidates can select as many dental schools as they
wish. After the DAT is taken, ADEA AADSAS will retrieve the
candidate's scores and will distribute them to all schools
designated in the ADEA AADSAS application. ADEA AADSAS is not able
to retrieve official DAT scores for applicants who did not indicate
any ADEA AADSAS participating dental schools in their DAT
registration.Consult the DAT Guide if you did not designate any
ADEA AADSAS-participating schools when you registered for the DAT
and you now want your scores to be included in your ADEA AADSAS
application.
Q: Do I report other standardized test scores to ADEA
AADSAS (e.g., TOEFL, GRE, etc.)?
A: No. ADEA AADSAS does not accept or forward
standardized test scores other than DAT scores to designated dental
schools. Send scores directly to your designated schools, if
required by those schools.
Q: I am a Canadian student applying to U.S. dental
schools. Do I have to take the U.S. version of the DAT if I have
already taken the Canadian DAT?
A: Check with the dental schools to which you
are applying. Many U.S. dental schools accept Canadian DAT results
in lieu of the U.S. DAT.
Q: How do I report Canadian DAT scores after my ADEA
AADSAS application is submitted?
A: Canadian applicants retaking the Canadian
DAT who wish to update scores in ADEA AADSAS may revise that
section at anytime during the application cycle. Dental schools may
request an official score report as well.
Q: Can I delete test scores from my
application?
A: No. All DAT Test scores are reported in ADEA
AADSAS
DAT Program

Q: Should I send an official DAT score report to ADEA
AADSAS?
A: No. Through an agreement with the American
Dental Association, U.S DAT scores are shared for all ADEA AADSAS
applicants. In the DAT registration materials, do not designate
ADEA AADSAS as a recipient of your DAT scores. Rather, indicate at
least one ADEA AADSAS participating dental school as one of your
selections. This will ensure that ADEA AADSAS receives your DAT
scores.
Q:How will I know if my DAT scores
have been imported into ADEA AADSAS?
A: Your DAT scores will be imported in your
ADEA AADSAS application if:
- You indicated, when you registered for the DAT, that you
wanted your DAT scores sent to at least one ADEA AADSAS
participating dental school.
- You have entered your DENTPIN and Date of Birth in your ADEA
AADSAS application
Check if your DAT scores have been downloaded to your ADEA
AADSAS application by:
- Logging into your ADEA AADSAS application
- In the "My Application Status" section, click on "Official DAT
Scores"
- Next to DAT, there will be a date that your scores were
imported into your ADEA AADSAS application.
It may take 3-4 weeks from the date that you take your DAT test
for your scores to be reported to and verified by the American
Dental Association, and for your scores to be transmitted to ADEA
AADSAS.ADEA AADSAS receives updated DAT scores on a weekly basis,
imports them into your application, and transmit them to schools
within one week of receipt.
Q:Why have my DAT scores not been
reported in my ADEA AADSAS application?
A: There may be several reasons why your DAT
scores may not be imported into your ADEA AADSAS application.
DAT scores are imported into your ADEA AADSAS application when your
DENTPIN and date of birth in your ADEA AADSAS application matches
the information you provided when you registered for the
DAT.
What you can consider:
1. When registering for the DAT, did you select at least
one ADEA AADSAS participating dental school? If, when you
registered for the DAT, you did not indicate an ADEA
AADSAS-participating dental school to receive your official DAT
scores, you must go to the DAT website and request a
score report to an ADEA AADSAS-participating dental school.Your
scores will then be sent to ADEA AADSAS and imported into your
application.
2. When registering for the DAT, did you report your
date of birth correctly? If you did not report your date
of birth correctly when registering for the DAT, ADEA AADSAS will
not be able to match your DAT scores to your ADEA AADSAS
application. Check with the ADA to ensure that your date
of birth was reported correctly in your DAT application.
If you reported your date of birth incorrectly you
must:
- Inform the ADA that you are an ADEA AADSAS applicant, your DAT
scores have not been reported in your ADEA AADSAS
application, and that it may be due to the date of birth error in
your DAT application. Note: The ADA requires that
all applicants that request a revision to their date of birth must
provide proof (e.g., copy of government issued
I.D, driver's license, birth certificate).
Once you have provided required documentation supporting your
request, the ADA will update your DAT application indicating your
correct date of birth. An updated DAT file will be forwarded to
ADEA AADSAS allowing us to match your DAT scores to your ADEA
AADSAS application. Note: This process may take
several weeks. Please contact the ADA if you have any
questions.
3. Did you report your DENTPIN correctly in your ADEA
AADSAS application? The DENTPIN you used in your DAT
application must match the DENTPIN you reported in your ADEA AADSAS
application. If your DENTPIN is not reported correctly, you must
log-in to your ADEA AADSAS application, go to the "Account
Information" section, enter the correct DENTPIN, and click
"Save".
4. Did you report your date of birth
correctly in your ADEA AADSAS application?ADEA AADSAS
matches your DENTPIN and date of birth to import your DAT scores.Be
sure that your date of birth is entered correctly in the
"Biographical Information" section of your application.
Note: It may take up to two business days to
download your scores from the time that you update your DENTPIN
and/or date of birth information in your ADEA AADSAS
application.
Q: Will ADEA AADSAS hold my application if I do not have
test scores?
A: No. ADEA AADSAS does not hold up the
processing of your application if you do not have official DAT
scores.
Q:How can I report "future DAT" test
to the participating dental school?
A: There is no longer a
specific place in the ADEA AADSAS application to report future DAT
test dates. You are encouraged to include this information in
another part of the application, ie., your essay, or contact your
dental schools directly with this information.
Q: If my designated school(s) requires
specific standardized test scores other than the DAT, what do I
do?
A: Send all standardized score reports directly
to the dental schools requesting them.
Q: If I had an application last year but it wasn't
mailed to dental schools, can I carry over any
information?
A: ADEA AADSAS cannot carry over any applications that were not
mailed last cycle. You will have to create a new account and
resubmit all information with the exception of your official DAT
scores, if you had them sent during the previous application cycle.
If ADEA AADSAS received your official DAT scores from the ADA
during the previous application cycle, they will import into your
new current ADEA AADSAS application. To check the receipt status of
your official DAT scores with ADEA AADSAS, log in to your
application and click on the "Official Scores" link in the "My
Application Status" section of the application. If you are applying
to any additional dental schools in the current cycle which you
have not previously applied to, you should request that the ADA
send your DAT scores to these additional dental schools to be
certain they receive the scores both directly and as a part of your
ADEA AADSAS application.
