"Assessing Continuing Education: Maintaining Ethical Standards and Quality Programs" was presented in Washington, DC on March 1, 2010 as the CE Section program.
The CE Section collaborated with the Association for Continuing Dental Education (ACDE) to present similar programming at each group's annual meetings. In August 2009, the ACDE presented a panel discussion entitled "Industry's Perspective and Relationship with University-based Continuing Dental Education" on ethical best practices in CE. The 4 member panel of corporate representatives discussed the topic with 43 CE directors & staff from dental schools across the US and Canada. In March 2010, the discussion continued at the ADEA annual meeting. The program entitled "Assessing Continuing Education: Maintaining Ethical Standards and Quality Programs" was presented by a 3 member panel comprised of speakers presenting the CE speaker's perspective, the CE director's perspective and the corporate perspective.
Plans are under way to collaborate with the Development, Alumni Affairs & Public Relations section, as well as the Business & Financial Administration section for section programming at the 2011 ADEA meeting. Each of the 3 sections will present a program that is of a related topic that would be beneficial to members of all 3 sections. We believe that by offering 3 programs of similar topics, value will be added to the annual ADEA meeting for these section members. Dr. Karl Haden of the Academy for Academic Leadership has agreed to work with us on the 2011 programs.
Councilor, Sue Felton has agreed to serve on a Task Force to explore ideas for the Council of Sections to raise funds for section programming.
The CE section actively communicates through use of its listserv.
