ADEAassist and Disaster Relief Fund

In late August 2005, a cross-divisional team of staff members created ADEAassist to act as a clearinghouse for offers of help to schools and programs devastated by Hurricane Katrina along the U.S. Gulf Coast.

Since Katrina, the ADEAassist staff team has monitored several weather-related problems that have affected member schools and programs along the Gulf Coast and in the Midwest and West.

Additionally, the ADEA Board of Directors in October 2005 unanimously voted to develop the ADEA Disaster Relief Fund, which will provide needs-based grants, gifts, or loans to ADEA member dental, allied dental, and advanced dental education institutions that reside in geographic areas adversely affected by natural and manmade disasters. The initial charter for the Disaster Relief Fund will be active through December 31, 2006. The charter may be renewed, modified, or terminated by vote of the ADEA Board of Directors in accordance with the Bylaws.
