About ADEA's Division of Educational Pathways
The ADEA Division of Educational Pathways administers the Associated American Dental Schools Application Services (AADSAS), the Postdoctoral Application Support Service (PASS), and the Centralized Application for Advanced Placement for International Dentists (CAAPID).

ADEA AADSAS
AADSAS is a centralized application service for students pursuing a doctorate in dentistry. Currently 55 of 56 ADA-accredited dental schools and one Canadian dental school participate in AADSASAADSAS meets the needs of dental schools by providing them with uniform information in a standardized format. AADSAS meets the needs of applicants by relieving them of the need to complete multiple applications. Essentially an information clearinghouse, AADSAS does not influence appraisal or selection of applicants.

Applicants inquiring about this service should contact AADSAS at 617-612-2045 or aadsasinfo@aadsasweb.org. Once an applicant’s material is received and transcripts are verified, AADSAS sends to dental schools in both paper and electronic formats a folder printed with the applicant’s background information and course work, computed grade point averages, and a copy of the applicant’s essay. AADSAS also sends schools comprehensive applicant rosters.

ADEA PASS
PASS is a centralized application service for students pursuing postdoctoral dental education in the areas of advanced education in general dentistry, anesthesiology, clinical research fellowships, endodontics, general practice residency, oral medicine, operative dentistry, oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics, periodontics-prosthodontics, and prosthodontics. PASS meets the needs of program directors, applicants, and dental schools by providing participating programs with uniform information in a standardized format and by relieving the applicant of the burden of completing multiple applications. Essentially an information clearinghouse, PASS does not influence programs’ appraisal or selection of applicants.

PASS processes completed applications to programs in both paper and electronic formats from July through March. In addition to receiving electronic applicant information, programs receive a folder for each applicant and a comprehensive roster that lists all applicants to the program.

ADEA CAAPID
Developed at the request of admissions officers from many U.S. and Canadian advanced placement programs for international dental graduates, ADEA opened its first CAAPID application cycle on June 8, 2009. The application period extends through February 2010. Currently 40+ dental schools offer these programs, which enable international dental graduates to obtain a U.S. or Canadian dental degree.

Similar to ADEA AADSAS and PASS, the ADEA CAAPID application allows international dental graduates to submit a single application and set of credentials that will be distributed by ADEA to all participating programs designated by the applicant. Programs will receive all application materials online through the ADEA CAAPID admissions officers portal. Programs can continue to request supplemental materials from applicants.

Committees
The AADSAS Task Force is charged with supporting ADEA staff in reviewing and revising the data elements, data manipulation, report formats, information transmittal protocols, and other essential items related to the predoctoral application services. Members of the AADSAS Task Force extend staff capability to collect and analyze information required by the end users related to an institution’s decision to grant an admissions interview and the select/admission process. The task force also reviews and revises, or reaffirms, end-user reports.

The PASS and CAAPID Task Forces support ADEA staff in reviewing data elements, report formats, and processes within both services. The task forces make recommendations for the future direction of PASS and CAAPID and analyze the effectiveness of the programs.
