ADEA Virtual Hill Day

Dates: Apr 26, 2017
Location: Virtual, Online

On April 26, ADEA will hold ADEA Virtual Hill Day, where you can communicate directly with your Members of Congress about issues of importance to academic dentistry via email and social media. Now, more than ever, it is important to make the case for funding for federal agencies and programs of importance to dental education and dental and craniofacial research, such as Title VII, Sec. 748 of the Public Health Service Act, which provides funding for health professions workforce training and for innovative research at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR).

Additionally, we want Members of Congress to support legislation that helps dental students continue their education and reduce the burden of student loan debt. We are asking for Higher Education Act reauthorization language that 1) reinstates eligibility for graduate and professional degree students to use federal Direct Subsidized Stafford Loans to finance their graduate educations and 2) allows federal graduate student loans to be refinanced more than once so new dentists can take advantage of lower interest rates when economic conditions are more favorable.

Please sign up through the ADEA Advocacy website under the tab, “Subscribe to ADEA Action Alerts” and use either your home or school ZIP code to identify your Members of Congress. On the morning of April 26, you will receive an email from ADEA with information you can cut and paste or personalize and send to your Member of Congress. At noon (Eastern Time) on April 26, ADEA will launch a Twitter “thunderclap,” which aggregates Twitter posts and allows us to create an impressive front on the importance of dental education’s priorities.

Join us for this important event. As they say in Washington, “if you are not at the table, you may be on the menu.”
