As a teaching and patient care institution, the College has trained thousands of highly skilled dental professionals to serve their communities, particularly the underserved. Our mission includes the philosophy that education, research and service are inseparable constituents of a modern dental education. Columbia University College of Dental Medicine
Predental Student Fair, Booth #38
The College of Dental Medicine, one of the first dental colleges has origins dating to 1852. The College offers the D.D.S. as well as postdoctoral specialty education and dual degrees with other schools of the University, including the M.B.A., the M.P.H., M.A. in Education and M.A. in Biomedical Informatics. Over 2400 applicants nation-wide seek positions in the class of 80 students. The four-year pre-doctoral curriculum is heavily biomedical. Community activities are extensive. The College has several off-site community-based facilities and a mobile van for Head Start centers. The College is the major source of oral health care for the northern Manhattan area and offers that care at a reasonable cost. Special populations, including those with complex medical histories, are served through the College’s clinics. The Global Health Extern Program is extensive and CDM students are active in over 10 sites worldwide. Approximately 95% of our graduates continue into postdoctoral education. Only 2 of the 59 other U.S. dental schools approach that percentage; only one in three dental graduates in the U.S. match postdoctoral programs. The student body is rich in its diversity; 50% are women, 15% are “under-represented in dentistry” students, and a significant number of matriculating students hold advanced degrees, e.g. M.D., Ph.D., M.A., etc. The College has a long tradition of excellence in research and supports research experiences with both internal and external short term training grants. Both the D.D.S. and specialty candidates are encouraged to be active participants in ongoing clinical and basic science research within the Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC).

Georgia Regents University School of Dental Medicine
Predental Student Fair, Booth #40
In 1965, the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia approved the establishment of a School of Dentistry on the campus of what was then known as the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) in Augusta, Georgia. In February 2011, the Board of Regents approved the institution’s proposal to change its name to Georgia Health Sciences University (GHSU) and to change the name of the dental school to the College of Dental Medicine. In January 2013, Georgia Health Sciences University and Augusta State University officially merged as mandated by the Board of Regents and we are now called Georgia Regents University (GRU). As the newly merged institution, GRU offers more than 110 degree programs and has more than 9,000 students in nine colleges. GRU is the state’s only dental school. The first dental students were accepted into the dental program in 1969, earning their Doctor of Dental Medicine degrees in June 1973. Since that first class, the college has awarded 2,060 DMD degrees, and more than 600 certificates of training in advanced dental education programs. The College of Dental Medicine offers a four-year program leading to a doctor of dental medicine degree. Dual programs in oral biology also are available. A GRU dental education emphasizes early exposure to patients. Students begin treating patients as early as sophomore year, enjoying a seamless transition from lecture halls and laboratories to clinics. The fourth year of education is devoted almost solely to patient care. Students also practice their skills in clinics and facilities throughout the state for a total of 8 weeks.
