Job prospects remain strong for dentists, according to the
latest Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook.
The data shows 141,900 dentists of all specialties currently in
practice. Many more will be needed to replace the large number of
practitioners expected to retire in the coming years.
Other interesting facts:
- Prosthodontists (28%) and orthodontists (20%) will the see the
greatest increase in employment.
- 75 percent of dentists are in solo practices.
- A salaried dentist earned an average of $142,870 in May
2008.
