2011 ADEA Fall Meetings

Creating, Converging, Connecting

ADEA Fall Meetings are a time for us to challenge ourselves, both individually and as an association, to “think outside the box,” and to prepare for the evolving future of dental education. While each meeting has its own purpose and agenda, we glean insights and share information that affects us all by gathering together at the same location. It is to all our benefit as dental educators and administrators that this collaborative environment continues to raise the quality and consistency of our profession, despite our diverse professional roles and interests.

One of the core meetings taking place this year is the Fourth ADEA Summit on Advanced Dental Education (ADEA ADE Summit), sponsored by the ADEA Council of Hospitals and Advanced Education Programs. Some critical discussion topics are being presented over the next few days, such as measuring success in advanced dental education (ADE) and other key programs, integrating ADE with the ADEA Commission on Change and Innovation in Dental Education (ADEA CCI), new admissions processes and models, and next steps in promoting excellence in ADE. I encourage all attendees to take part on some level in the dialogue at the ADEA ADE Summit. The Fourth ADEA Summit panels are open to all attendees.

I have no doubt we will take what we learn and experience at the ADEA Fall 2011 Meetings and use that knowledge to open up new avenues in shaping the future of dental education. It is our duty and privilege as educators, administrators, and mentors.

Panel Discussion: What Do the Revised CODA Predoctoral Accreditation Standards Mean to Dental Education? A Look at the Big Picture

Revised Predoctoral Accreditation Standards have been adopted by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA). Right now, conversations are focused on the details of these changes and how they will impact schools' compliance at accreditation-"the devil's in the details" approach. But what about the broad implications of the standards? Will these changes force us to go "beyond the crossroads"? This session will focus on implications for the future of dental education, for the students we select, and for the students we graduate and prepare for advanced education.
