2014 ADEA CCI Summer Liaisons Meeting

ADEA’s Commission on Change and Innovation (CCI) in Dental Education Summer Liaisons Meeting provides an opportunity for ADEA CCI Liaisons to convene with their colleagues, explore new concepts and expand their capabilities to serve as change agents in their home institutions.

Unlocking Innovation through Technology

2014 Program Overview

When education scholars shifted their focus away from teaching and placed it squarely on learning, all previous rules for providing students with lecture content flew out the window. In an age of technology we find chalkboards, along with pencil and paper, replaced by technology as the main conduit of information delivery. PowerPoint, clickers, blogs, Wikis, and webinars are just a few of the content delivery modalities that have infused the student learning experience. The transformation was swift and uneven, with some faculty quickly adapting their classrooms and others continuing to struggle to gain ground under the heap of technological advancements. As faculty grapple with deciding what, if any, technology they should incorporate into their courses, the lack of clear guidelines on how best to use technology has resulted in many myths. Do all students prefer technology-enhanced courses? Is more technology better than less? Does technology actually improve student learning?

2014 Program Highlights

  • Examine common myths that surround learning technologies.
  • Distinguish which learning technologies work best for specific learning contexts.
  • Apply best practices in utilizing learning technologies to the development of a student “learning-centered” format.
