Division Director, Periodontology (Faculty Position)

East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine

The Director, Division of Periodontology, is responsible for leading and managing the Periodontology Division of Surgical Sciences. This department consists of the dental specialties of Endodontology, Oral-Maxillofacial Pathology, Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery, and Periodontology.

 

The Director, Division of Periodontology, reports to the Chair of the Department of Surgical Sciences.

 

The division and department work in close cooperation with the Offices of Academic Support, Clinical Affairs, Dental Education and Informatics and Planning and Extramural Affairs to support the School's programs and initiatives.

 

In addition, the Division of Periodontology works closely with other Schools and Colleges of East Carolina University and other components of the University of North Carolina, as well as local/regional educational and clinical programs.

 

The Director, Division of Periodontology, participates in hiring, mentoring and professional development of the faculty in the division and also provides coordination of didactic and clinical activities among the clinical disciplines in Periodontology.

 

The Director, Division of Periodontology, coordinates the development and implementation of the Periodontology curriculum taught to the dental students and the pediatric dentistry residency program.

 

The Director, Division of Periodontology also works with the program directors of the advanced general dentistry residency and pediatric dentistry programs to help provide Periodontics education and training to those two programs.

 

Fixed term or tenure track position at the title/rank of Assistant Professor or higher available.

 

Qualifications:

  • DDS or DMD (or equivalent) from an appropriately accredited institution with expertise in dental education.
  • Eligibility for dental licensure in North Carolina (a NC dental license must be secured within sixty days of employment).
  • Broad knowledge of issues in dental education.
  • Commitment to general practice model of education, including a broad definition of the scope of general dentistry.
  • Commitment to the mission of the School of Dental Medicine.
  • Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.
  • Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in an academic setting such as a dental school, hospital or military program.
  • Experience mentoring faculty.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Commitment to evidence-based teaching and practice.
  • Willingness to apply academic experiences of contemporary dental education and traditional educational values to the Community Services Learning Center model.
  • Clinical experience in dental education at the institutional level, working in development, implementation, evaluation and monitoring of departmental programs leading to the dental degree.
  • Experience with digital record keeping, imaging, and/or grading.
