ADEA CAAPID Application Instructions

Personal Statement

The personal statement provides the applicant with an opportunity to explain his or her desire to pursue an advanced placement program in the United States. ADEA recommends that applicants compose the statement in a text-only word processor (e.g., Notepad), review the statement for errors and then copy and paste the final version into the text box. The statement is limited to approximately one page (5,200 characters, including spaces). While this section is required for ADEA CAAPID®, not all programs will use the personal statement in their decision-making process. Applicants should not make the essay program-specific as it will be provided to all programs through ADEA CAAPID®.
